Sunday’s message, “Work With Me,” drew from Romans 8:28 and spoke directly to those who feel lonely in their labor. We were reminded that loneliness in labor does not require physical isolation. We can be surrounded by family, coworkers, friends, or even a church community and still feel alone in the work we are carrying.

​Romans 8:28 offered us an important tension to hold. The King James Version tells us that “all things work together for good,” while the New International Version tells us that “in all things God works for the good.” Rather than forcing an either/or conclusion, we were invited to embrace the both/and: all things can work together for good because God is at work in all things for good.

We were also challenged not to approach Scripture as passive readers looking only for verses that confirm what we want from God. Instead, we should interrogate the Word with the intent of discovering what God wants for our lives.
